Keeping Dometic Parts in Good Shape

The best RV refrigerators can last a lifetime, but like any mechanical device they’re not immune to wear and tear. Fortunately, routine maintenance can extend the life of your Dometic refrigerator. With a few tips and the right tools, you can keep your Dometic fridge freezer running at its best for years to come.

Thermocouple —

One of the most temperamental components of a Dometic fridge is its thermocouple, which can stop working at a moment’s notice. To avoid costly repairs, it’s a good idea to have an extra one on hand. It’s also a good idea to check the thermocouple before every trip and replace it whenever necessary.

Fridge Temps —

In addition to having an extra thermocouple, it’s helpful to have a thermometer on hand. When you’re traveling, you can use the thermometer to check the temperature of your fridge and the food inside it. Having this information will help you maintain your fridge’s proper temperature and prevent overcooling, which can make it difficult to keep food at a safe eating temperature.

Keeping your fridge on the cool side will prevent it from having to work as hard. The day before your trip, turn on your fridge so that it can begin to cool down to a food-safe level by the time you need to leave. You should also freeze or pre-cool refrigerated foods before your trips. This will allow your fridge to cool down more quickly and save on electricity.

Heki Vents

One of the most popular accessories for truck campers is Dometic’s Heki Roof Vent. The Midi Heki Vent, which is the most common model in North America, features a lift bar that allows you to control how much air is permitted into your truck camper. The lift bar integrates with a large push button release that keeps the vent closed when not in use.

A Digital Multimeter —

For basic troubleshooting, it’s always good to have a digital multimeter on hand. Besides being useful for refrigerator diagnostics, it’s also a great tool to have when trying to figure out whether a power issue with your Dometic fridge is caused by electrical issues at the campground or a problem with your RV fridge itself.

With the right tools and Dometic parts, you can keep your RV refrigerator at peak performance for years to come. Just be sure to take proper safety precautions when handling any tools or electric components and never attempt repairs or maintenance during rainy weather. Be sure to turn off all power sources before you open access panels or remove any parts, and don’t forget to wear rubber gloves when working near electrical components.
