Talbina – A Sunnah Food Recommendation

Talbina is a traditional dish that is made by slowly cooking barley flour and milk until it has reached a thick, porridge-like consistency. It is often sweetened with honey or cinnamon and can be enjoyed as a comforting breakfast cereal, midday snack, or an evening treat. It can also be used as a base to create rich soups and stews, or as a thickener for sauces.

It is a Sunnah food recommended by the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him). Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) mentions that the Messenger of Allah said, “Talbina gives rest to the heart of the patient and makes it active, and helps relieve sorrow and grief.”

The benefits of talbina include a boost in energy levels, protection against heart disease, and a healthy digestive system. It is a good source of antioxidants and anti-inflammatory properties, as well as being high in fibre, which is known to reduce cholesterol levels.

In addition, talbina contains high solvent strands known as beta-glucan. This helps to suppress the appetite by making you feel full for longer, which can help control unhealthy food intake and prevent excess weight gain. It is also an excellent source of soluble fibre, which can help lower bad cholesterol and control blood sugar levels. This can prevent and delay the onset of heart disease and diabetes. It can also improve the elasticity of the heart arteries, and reduce inflammation in the heart.
